IRS Stimulus Check October 2025: Payout Schedule, Refund Updates & Eligibility Tracker

There are no new federal stimulus checks approved for October 2025. The third federal stimulus check, and other credits relating to it, was to be filed for no later than April 15, 2025. The Recovery Rebate Credit is also no longer available, and no federal direct support for COVID-19 is available. Taxpayers will no longer receive pandemic-related payments if they did not, claim by April 15, file the required paperwork.

Payments and Refunds from the IRS

Changes are coming to how refunds are sent from the IRS. After September 30th, 2025, IRS paper refund checks will no longer be available, and taxpayers will receive their refunds electronically. These options will include direct deposits and prepaid debit cards for the IRS, like Direct Express. This change was made to increase the speed of payments, diminish losses and fraud, and reduce costs associated with paper refunds. Refunds will be much more easily available to taxpayers who do not have a bank account with the options and prepaid cards offered by the IRS.

Payments Scheduled for October 2025

Here are the important IRS payment dates scheduled for October:

  • October 1st: SSI recipients receive their monthly payment.
  • October 3rd: Early Social Security payments for those who began receiving benefits before May 1997 or those who receive both SSI and Social Security.
  • October 8th: Payments for individuals whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th.
  • October 15th: Payments for those whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th.
  • October 22nd: Payments for those whose birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st.

In October, SSI recipients will receive two payments. On October 1st, and again on October 31st. The payment on October 31st is not a bonus, but an advance of the benefit for November. No extra SSI payment will be made in November.

IRS Stimulus Check October 2025: Payout Schedule, Refund Updates & Eligibility Tracker

Eligibility Tracker and Refund Updates

By the end of September 2025, the IRS will put out another version of the “Get My Payment” tracker, providing recipients with another method to track the status of their refunds. Refunds and credits for the tax year will still consider past income, Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) as well as social security numbers and dependent status. Taxpayers who still have refunds pending and chose paper checks before the deadline should adjust any IRS communications for refund method updates and confirm the payment method has switched to electronic as it will streamline the process.

State-Level Stimulus and Rebate Checks

Even though the federal payments have stopped, some states will still provide some tax relief and tax rebates for 2025. Each state has different requirements for the taxpayer to meet and usually entails income requirements, filing current returns and proof of residency. The federal “tariff checks” to accompany the American Worker Rebate Act have not passed and will not be available.
